Being in the outdoors is a constant learning experience. At Outdoor Horizons we recognise that we never stop learning and that we will learn from you as well as you from us. Every day out with us will leave you with skills and experience that you did not have at the beginning.
In our many years of experience in the mountains we have made the mistakes and learned from them, let us show you how to avoid problems and, if they do arise, how to cope with them on our Mountain Skills course. This bespoke course can run over one or a number of days, depending on your level of experience and the skills you want, and can include:
- Navigation; including night navigation and National Navigation Awards.
- Equipment; what to carry and how to use it.
- Walking skills; how to move safely and efficiently across a variety of terrain.
- Steep ground; how to deal with it, how to avoid it.
- Rope skills; for when it gets too steep.
- Campcraft; how to get a good night’s sleep in the mountains. This can be combined with our Wild Camping Experience, see our Mountains page.
All our instructors have National Governing Body leading awards and have instructed on MLTE Mountain Leader and Walking Group Leader courses.
MLTE Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Awards are offered in conjunction with John Dodd, an experienced MLTE Course Provider who acts as our Technical Advisor.

Night activities such as Night Navigation sessions and the overnight Wild Camping Experience are charged at the daily rate. (i.e. 2 days mountain walking with an overnight wild camp is charged as 3 days.)
The Welsh 3000s Day, with full support, costs £300-00 for a party of up to 4. For larger parties please contact us for a quotation.
